Exit

WYTRF and The Green Lane Association (GLASS) joined forces with the Peak Park Rangers and West Yorkshire Police on the Bank Holiday Sunday at the end of May to raise awareness of legal Rights of Way and the damage being caused as a result of illegal off-piste motoring by a small group of at best ignorant and at worst irresponsible 4×4 drivers – usually after dark – on the Holme end of the lane around Ramsden Reservoir near to Holmfirth in Last of the Summer Wine country.

The good weather brought out more families and walkers than drivers, but a few small groups of bikers came through and whilst not TRF members were happy to stop and chat. These riders were well prepared with GPS routes and knew where they were going, so after our chat we wished them well and sent them on their way.

A couple of lads on Triumph Explorers came next and once again were happy to stop and chat, and finally a lad on a Triumph 1050ST who was completely lost and had we not been there to advise him turned around and went back on the tarmac route to join the Holme Moss road.

All in all the day was deemed a success, although we’d all hoped to see a bit more ‘traffic’, but some good contacts with all the agencies were made and a commitment to do it again later in the year.
